WARREN - Carl Frederick Bauman Jr., 66, of Warren, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
He was born Aug. 22, 1947, in Warren, the son of the late Carl Frederick Bauman Sr. and Mary Grace Esken Bauman of Newton Falls.
He was raised in Newton Falls and was a lifetime Trumbull County resident.
Carl was a 1965 graduate of Newton Falls High School, where he was a member of the football, basketball and baseball teams. He then attended Kent State University. He served in the 4th U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968 during the Vietnam War, where he managed two swimming facilities, was a Red Cross swimming instructor for military families and was in charge of water therapy for injured soldiers during his assignment at Ft. Polk, La.
Carl worked as the chief engineer's assistant at the Ravenna arsenal. He retired in 2001 after 30 years of service from Delphi Packard Electric, where he was an inspector in quality control.
In his youth, Carl was active in Cub and Boy Scouts and Little League. In high school, he was an accomplished baseball player and was scouted by the Cleveland Indians. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowled and golfed on area leagues, and was a member of the Packard Electric teams. He continued to play baseball as an adult. Carl was a champion billiards player and toured with the Busch billiards league. He was an avid motorcyclist and was an excellent dancer, enjoying dancing with his wife, Diana.
Carl was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Warren. He was a member of Newton Falls Posts No. 236 of the American Legion and Post No. 3332 of the VFW. He also was a member of the Newton Falls AMVETS and Army Navy Garrison posts.
Carl is survived by his wife of 42 years, Diana Marlene Cohol Bauman, whom he married Aug. 7, 1971; his mother, Mary Grace Bauman, and a family friend, William "Bill" Pritt, both of Newton Falls; one daughter, Michelle Marie (Joseph) Jarzembowski of Warren; two brothers, Richard E. (Karen) Bauman of Newton Falls and William B. Bauman of Cincinnati; three nephews, Robert, Timothy and Nathan Bauman; and two nieces, Kelly Stewart and Natalie Hoyt.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren, and also one hour prior to the 11 a.m. memorial service Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Rev. Ann Marie Winters will officiate.
Inurnment will be in the church columbarium. Military honors will be accorded at the church following the service.
