75TH ANNIVERSARY OF WAR OF THE WORLDS: The North Bloomfield Historical Society will host an evening commemorating the 75th anniversary of the 1938 Orson Welles radio broadcast of "War of the Worlds," a play based on the book by by H.G. Wells.
The original one-hour radio broadcast will be played at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the township hall, 8832 Park Drive, North Bloomfield. Admission is free.
FRIENDS OF BARNS: The Vienna Historical Society will hold a Friends of Ohio Barns presentation at 7 p.m. today at the township hall. The event will look at the history of local and state barns.
OAKHILL CEMETERY TOUR: The Oak Hill Cemetery Tour will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery, 344 Oak Hill Ave., Youngstown. In case of rain, the makeup day is 1 p.m. Nov. 30. For information, call Steffon Wydell Jones at 330-259-2091.
TREAT EVENT: Calvary Bible Church, 2878 Warren Meadville Road, will hold a trunk or treat from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
AUCTION PLANNED: St. Michaels Church in Canfield will host its 11th annual scholarship auction at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the parish Family Life Center. This year's theme is "County Fair," and will feature several varieties of chili prepared by different church organizations.
In the past 10 years, the scholarship auction has raised more than $150,000 with more than 120 graduating high school seniors in the parish receiving awards to help offset their college expenses.
SKATING EVENT SET: Agape Assembly Church will hold a free Fall Gospel Skate from 6 to 9 p.m., Thursday at Champion Rollarena, 5040 Mahoning Ave. N.W. Church groups and organizations are welcome to participate. Admission is free. There is a skate rental of $3.
The church is collecting donations of bulk bags of candy for treat bags for all the youth who will be attending. Donations can be dropped off at 26 Nevada Ave. S.W. in Warren.
NIGHT AT RACES PLANNED: A "Night at the Races" fundraising event is being planned for 5 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Aut Mori Grotto Hall at 563 N. Belle Vista Ave. The event will benefit the Youngstown Heritage Center, 545 North Belle Vista Ave., and the Allac Club, based at the Grotto Hall.
The event will include a Chinese auction. The Allac Club is an organization that performs charitable works and raises money for local community projects, especially those benefiting children. First race is at 6 p.m.
