WARREN TOWNSHIP - LaBrae Local Schools restricted access to its buildings today as a precaution due to high tensions and weekend violence in Warren and Warren Township over the weekend.
LaBrae Local School's superintendent A.J. Calderone said because district officials heard there may have been a shooting on the city's west side, they decided to restrict entrance to area school buildings today.
"This is not an official lockdown," Calderone said earlier today. "Our students are still able to move from classroom to classroom and the normal school activities occurring."
However, outdoor activities, such as recess, were conducted inside the school buildings.
The superintendent said with the recent increased tensions that have been happening in Warren they decided to take this extra precaution.
There was a fatal shooting early Saturday morning on West Market Street in Warren and a related shooting outside a bar on Highland Avenue in Warren Township that left one person wounded, police have said. The shootings appear to be related to the shooting death of Warren man Taemarr Walker on Oct. 19 by a Warren Police officer.
