CHAMPION - Kenneth William Pykare, 86, of Champion, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, after a lengthy illness.
He was born June 9, 1927, in Bazetta, the son of the late August and Emma Keever Pykare.
Ken was a graduate of Bazetta High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was employed at American Welding and retired in 1988 after more than 30 years of service. He was a member of Champion Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and enjoyed time spent at the Men's Prayer Breakfast. Gardening was his passion, and he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and also spending time at Lake Erie.
Ken married Patricia Pritchard on April 3, 1952, in Warren, and she preceded him in death Oct. 15, 2005.
Ken is survived by his children, Karen (James) Day of Champion, Timothy (Regina) Pykare of Cleveland Heights, Jill (Larry) Engle of Cortland, Scott Pykare of Akron, and Pamela Pykare of Commerce, Ga.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Davis of Warren; a brother, Robert (Barbara) Pykare of Gustavus; and a sister-in-law, Sandy (Warren) Stevens of Warren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, at Champion Presbyterian Church where the Rev. Marvin Barney will officiate. Calling hours will be held at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the church.
The family requests donations be made to the Christian Education Fund at Champion Presbyterian Church.
