WARREN - A man was shot shortly before 2 a.m. today after a police officer reported a man with gun, according to scanner traffic.
The incident at the intersection of Risher Road and Palmyra Road S.W. unfolded in a matter of minutes beginning at 1:48 a.m. after an officer called for backup and then scanner traffic intercepted him yelling, "Get your hands up!"
Moments later, a police dispatcher reported that shots had been fired and an ambulance was dispatched for one person. The police officer involved was not injured, scanner traffic indicated.
A Warren police detective and spokesman was called to the scene, but attempts to reach him were not immediately successful. Dispatchers were instructed to contact Chief Eric Merkel and the state Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation for assistance in the investigation.
More than a half-dozen cruisers responded to the scene, where officers immediately began blocking access to the area with yellow police tape strung from trees across the roadways.
No names, conditions or further details were immediately available.
