Tribune Chronicle |

NILES -- A city councilman seeking re-election next month was ordered to pay a $400 fine earlier today after he was found guilty of operating a vehicle impaired.

Fourth Ward Councilman Edward McCormick Jr., 59, of Elm Court, pleaded no contest in Niles Municipal Court.

He was also ordered to attend a driver intervention program for three days and his license was suspended for six months.

McCormick was arrested in August after crashing his car while trying to make a turn near Pratt Street and East Park Avenue in Niles, according to police reports. His blood-alcohol content was 0.228, nearly three times more than the 0.08 percent limit in Ohio.

McCormick was charged with drunken driving in 1998 but eventually pleaded guilty to reckless operation.

He is unopposed on the November ballot.
