A finalist in the 14th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition will join the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra for its next concert, after which the orchestra will unveil a new "After Hours" series.
Fei-Fei Dong will perform the Grieg Piano Concerto. Born in Shenzhen, China, Dong began piano lessons at age 5. She gave her first recital at age 10 and made her orchestral debut three years later.
She has appeared with the Aspen Music Festival, Hong Kong, Juilliard, Shanxi and Shenzhen orchestras and performed at Alice Tully Hall, Warsaw Philharmonic Concert Hall and the Louvre Auditorium.
She currently lives in New York and is studying at the Juilliard School.
The orchestra, under the direction of Randall Craig Fleischer, also will play Mozart's "The Abduction from the Seraglio" and Brahm's Third Symphony.
The concert starts at 8 p.m. Saturday at Powers Auditorium, 260 W. Federal St., Youngstown. Tickets range from $40 to $55 and are available at the DeYor Performing Art Center box office and by calling 330-744-0264.
Following the concert will be the orchestra's new series, called "After Hours," which is designed to strength the orchestra's relationship with the community and to further acquaint downtown visitors with the DeYor Performing Arts Center as an entertainment destination.
Musicians from the orchestra will perform in a cabaret setting in the lobby of Overture, which will feature a special menu created by executive chef Jeffrey Chrystal.
The music will start around 10 p.m. will feature Mozart chamber music. There is no cover charge.
