Shepherd of the Valley - Howland resident, Fred Kubli, was presented last month with the Niles Area Business Council's William Clayman Community Pride Award.
The Clayman Award, named for William Clayman, long-time industrialist with Niles Iron and Metal, recognizes business ethics, professionalism, character, integrity and service above and beyond, community outreach, leadership, volunteerism and commitment to the Niles area.
Kubli, at age 93, has been involved over the years with the Friends of the McKinley Library, Shepherd of the Valley Board of Directors, Board of the Niles Community Improvement Corp. and Civil Service Commission and was former chair of the Niles Historical Society Board of Trustees. Kubli also was active in the Boy Scouts and is a Silver Beaver Award Recipient and along with his wife, LaVerne, held memberships and offices in numerous other organizations and causes in the area.
Earlier this year, Kubli was promoted to the first ever honorary brigadier general of the 910th Air Lift Wing by commander Brig. Gen. Brian E. Dominguez in a ceremony held in the community room at Shepherd of the Valley - Howland.
Rick Mattix, vice-chair of the Niles Area Business Council Board and Associate Director for Shepherd of the Valley-Niles, presented the Clayman Award to Kubli in the chapel at the Howland facility.
