LORDSTOWN -- Emergency crews are at the scene of a fiery crash involving a semi truck and maintenance vehicle on the Ohio Turnpike early this afternoon.
Ohio State Patrol is reporting that the truck crashed into a construction area and hit a Turnpike Commission vehicle around 1 p.m. in the eastbound lane of the turnpike near Route 45 and Reuther Drive. The semi then rolled down an embankment and burst into flames, troopers said.
Troopers said the semi truck driver was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center with unknown injuries.
No one on the construction crew was injured. Troopers said two people who had been in the maintenance vehicle were not in it at the time of impact.
Traffic is down to one lane and ``slightly'' backed up. However, the left lane remains open.
