In his sixth year of coaching the Lakeview girls golf team, Mike Turco has noticed improvement season by season.
He doesn't see that stopping anytime soon.
The Bulldogs are advancing to the district tournament for the third time under Turco. They came in second place at Punderson Golf Course in Monday's Division II sectional tournament.
"We put in some rigorous preparation for Punderson," Turco said. "And they're all ready to do it again."
Lakeview shot a team score of 354, led by sophomore Kaylee Neumeister's 80.
"She strung a lot of pars together and ended up shooting 36 on the back nine, which is a great mark at such a tough course," Turco said.
Junior Ryan Rosenberger shot an 86, while sophomores Ashley Frasca and Taylor Horn shot 88 and 100, respectively.
"We keep improving year-by-year and we're still a young team," Turco said. "We return everybody next year and then three more are coming back the year after."
Hawken won Monday's tournament in Newbury with a 337. In 2012, the Hawks placed fourth at the state tournament in Columbus. They return every girl from a year ago. Senior Meredith Cohen shot an 86, while Isabella Joseph had an 88.
Haylee Harford, who found success at the state tournament two years ago as a student at John F. Kennedy, is finding her postseason form as a junior at LaBrae.
She took the top spot Monday with a 69 - shooting 34 on the front and 35 on the back.
"It was a pretty well-rounded outing," Harford said. "It felt really good to shoot a low score like that."
After playing with the boys team for many matches this season, it was really her first time playing from the ladies tees in a while.
"It is different," Harford said. "It's kind of an advantage almost. Going from long to short distances does help a little."
Champion's Haley Dean shot a 105 as an individual entrant and also qualified for the district tournament, which will be held at Tam O'Shanter in Canton.
