YOUNGSTOWN - Northside Medical Center said it will file an Unfair Labor Practice charge with the National Labor Relations Board today to challenge the validity of Tuesday's planned nurses strike.
The hospital contends it received three strike notices, all with conflicting dates and times, in advance of Tuesday's strike, which it called a violation of federal labor law.
The Ohio Nurses Association / Youngstown General Duty Nurses Association, representing about 430 nurses at Northside Medical Center issued the 10-day notice Sept. 12 with plans to picket Tuesday outside the hospital for one day.
"If the O.N.A. moves forward with its strike and/or picketing tomorrow, the hospital would view such activities as unlawful," said hospital spokeswoman Trish Hrina.
ONA / YGDNA president Eric Williams didn't immediately comment because he hadn't yet seen the hospital's allegation.
