HOWLAND SWEEPS NILES INVITE: The Howland boys and girls cross country teams won their respective races at the Niles Invitational at Stevens Park on Saturday
The boys took five of the first six places in their race, with Ryan Sullivan running the course in 16 minutes, 46 seconds to take the individual title. Ethan Petrilla (16:51) finished in second, Connor Dotson (16:55) in third, Ben Cole (17:30) in fifth and Ethan Neff (17:40) in sixth.
The girls team had a pack of four runners lead the way to give the Tigers an 11-point win over Girard. Haley Dieter led the team with a fifth-place finish (21:31), followed by Morgan Buckley (21:31), Taylor Cragio (21:31) and Emily Krafcik (21:32). Regan Dieter rounded out the top five with a 17th-place finish (23:15).
Southeast's Miranda Hughes (20:47) took second place, while Girard's Domenique Hall came in third (21:24).
RIDGE SWEEPS SMITH INVITE: The Mineral Ridge boys and girls teams placed first at the Jean Ann Smith Invitational at Lordstown Village. Logan Smith led the boys by taking the individual crown with a time of 17:12, and on the girls side, Kate Kellerman's and Tatum Flesch's second- and third-place finishes paced the Rams to a five-point win over Western Reserve.
GRANTONIC PACES BOARDMAN AT MALONE: Junior Jordan Grantonic took second place in the Division I girls race at the Malone Invitational on Saturday, helping Boardman finish seventh as a team. The Austintown Fitch boys took seventh as a team in the Division I boys race, the Poland girls finished in 10th in the Division II race and the Poland boys took 17th place in Division II.
FINLEY WINS CARDINAL INVITE: Running purely as an individual, Grand Valley sophomore Jessica Finley pulled away with the girls' individual crown at the Cardinal Invitational in Middlefield with a time of 19:47.7.
