CUYAHOGA FALLS - John F. Kennedy's Ryan Fowler was medalist and MVP of the North Coast Catholic League Tournament on Wednesday at Pine Hills Golf Club.
Fowler, a junior, shot a 2-under 72 to win the White Division of the NCCL. He tied with Chase Johnson of Walsh Jesuit of the Blue Division (Divisions I and II), but Fowler won on criteria (lower score on the back nine; Fowler shot a 34, Johnson a 37).
Fowler also was named first-team all-league, which combines both divisions.
"He had five birdies today, and he probably could have gone lower," said Kennedy coach Jim St. George, who was named coach of the year. "It's the most birdies he's had in one event. He's peaking at the right time, and he's ready to go for sectionals."
The Eagles, winners of the last two team championships, finished two strokes behind St. Thomas Aquinas' 333 for the team title. Kennedy's Billy Phillips, who carded a 79, was named to the first team of the White Division.
The Eagles begin sectionals on Wednesday at Riverview Golf Course starting at 8:30 a.m.
