GIRARD - Police are investigating the vandalism of a large sign inside Arrowhead Stadium by two people late Sunday night.
The sign, a large red "G," police said, was ripped to pieces in what the school estimated is $1,000 worth of damage.
While on patrol about 12:50 a.m. Monday in the area of South Highland Avenue, an officer saw the two suspects inside the stadium fence, according to police reports.
After noticing the patrol car, the two individuals fled toward Parkview, police said. The officer hopped the fence to the stadium and chased them, reports said, but he was unable to locate them.
Neighbors reported to police they had seen two people running behind the homes that surround the stadium.
Other witnesses confirmed the two suspects ran down a small path leading to an apartment complex on Elruth Avenue, reports said, before jumping into a car and leaving the area.
The two subjects were still at large Monday afternoon. The sign had to be disposed of by the school.
The officer said both subjects appeared to be white male juveniles, one of whom was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, while the other had on a dark colored shirt.
Police said the vehicle was an older-model grey car with a loud exhaust.
