WARREN - The locally built Chevy Cruze remained the top-selling new car in the three-county region last month, according to figures released Tuesday by the Auto Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio, or ADAEO.
New car buyers in Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties took delivery of 175 Cruzes at local dealerships. The number is up 73 percent over August 2012 sales of 101.
The tri-county increase in new car sales came across the board at an average of 11 percent last month to 2,592 from 2,333 in August 2012. Top seller in the three-county area was Greenwood Chevrolet in Austintown. The dealership moved 175 new vehicles off the lot last month, up 38 percent from the 127 sold last year at this time.
Ranking next among dealers for new car sales was Sweeney Chevrolet, with 156 new car sales; Stadium GM Superstore, with 130; Taylor Kia with 121 sales; and The Honda Store with 104. Each of the five locations, all in Mahoning County, reported increased sales over the previous year.
Trumbull County new car sales were led again by Diane Sauer Chevrolet, which sold 97 new cars, a 45 percent increase over the 67 new cars sold there in August 2012. Sauer's sales were followed by Sims Buick GMC Nissan at 90; Apostolakis Honda with 72; Klaben Ford Lincoln of Warren with 71; and Greenwood Hubbard Chevrolet with 70 new car sales.
The ADAEO numbers showed jumps in used car sales last month as well.
Trumbull County buyers purchased 859 used cars in August, up 8 percent over the 799 sold the same time last year. Top used car sales dealership was Sauer in Warren. The dealership sold 75 used cars, up 14 percent over the 66 sold this time last year.
Mahoning County buyers took home 2,144 used cars in August, up about 1 percent from 2,127 sold in August 2012. Top used car sales dealership was Greenwood Chevy in Austintown.
Other hot-selling models were the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, at 158 in the three-county area; Chevy Malibu, with 154; Chevy Equinox with 131; and Ford F-150 with 75.
