Mon., 9:43am: Six Cuyahoga curruption defendants await sentencing

CLEVELAND - Six defendants who pleaded guilty in 2009 to bribery-related charges in a county corruption investigation in Cleveland are still awaiting sentencing.

They agreed to cooperate in the investigation, and federal prosecutors told the judge last year that they had fulfilled their part of the deal.

Some defense attorneys question the sentencing delay and say their clients want to move ahead with their lives.

Case Western Reserve University law professor Kevin McMunigal says the delay could be related to a separate county investigation.

The federal prosecutor's office said Monday it won't comment on the delay. Judge Sara Lioi sent word to The Plain Dealer that she won't comment on pending cases.

More than 60 people, including elected officials, county employees and contractors, have been convicted in the investigation.
