WARREN - Elder Vernon P. Morgan Sr., 67, 939 Highland Ave. S.W., died at 12:31 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, at St. Joseph Health Center, after suffering a heart attack.
He was born Feb. 18, 1946, in Savannah, Ga., the son of Deacon Johnnie and Suzzie Thompson Morgan, and was raised by his stepmother, Pastor Evelyn Morgan.
He was pastor of The Seat of Mercy Church and retired from Operating Engineers.
Besides his wife, Joyce Darlene Carthorn Morgan of Warren, he is survived two sons, Vernon Paul Morgan Jr. of Youngstown and David Morgan Sr. of Warren; 11 daughters, Tracy L. Morgan of Pattison, Miss., Leslie Ann Morgan of Warren, Michelle D. Tyson of Augusta, Ga., Mary E. Morgan Flanagan and Rebecca Darlene Morgan, both of Warren, Deborah L. Morgan of Glendale, Ariz., Rachel Re'Nay Morgan of Phoenix; Terra Yvette Morgan of Warren, Esther Sammatha Morgan and Sara Lei Morgan, both of Glendale, Ariz., and Anna Ruth Tyner of Georgia; one brother, Vernell Thompson of Georgetown, S.C.; four sisters, Gladys Thompson of Orangeburg, S.C., and Inez McCullough, Josephine Thompson and Sherry Thompson, all of Houston; 25 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
One brother and two sisters preceded him in death.
Calling hours will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Sterling-McCullough Williams Funeral Chapel.
Graveside services will be held immediately after the calling hours at Oakwood Cemetery.
Family will receive friends at 939 Highland Ave. S.W., the home of his wife, Joyce Morgan.
