CHAMPION - Michael P. Poprik, 101, of Champion, died Sunday morning, Aug. 25, 2013, at Windsor House of Champion.
He was born June 6, 1912, in Versalles, Pa., the son of the late Paul and Susanna Mehalco Poprik. He had been a Trumbull County resident since he was 15 years old.
Michael was a 1930 graduate of Lordstown High School. He retired as an owner-operator in 1980 after working for 34 years as an independent truck driver.
Michael was a longtime member of SS. Peter and Paul Byzantine Church in Warren. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and had been an active member of the Warren YMCA.
Michael is survived by many nieces and nephews, including his caregivers, Nancy Shafer of Champion and Linda Geddes of Clancy, Mont.; one great-nephew, Gregory (Lotta) Shafer of Champion; one great-great-nephew, Jeremiah; and one great-great-niece, Hannah.
His wife, Helen M. Magera Poprik, whom he married Nov. 22, 1947, preceded him in death April 16, 2004. Four brothers and three sisters also preceded him in death.
A private funeral service was held Friday at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren, with the Rev. Kevin Marks officiating.
Burial was in Champion Township Cemetery.
