August 31, 2013
Tribune Chronicle |
Cleanup and rescue crews work on dislodging a crane stuck beneath the railroad bridge along North Main and Federal streets in Niles. The hydraulic lift was activated and the crane jammed beneath the bridge, damaging the structure. Traffic along North Main and Federal streets was backed up. No injuries were reported. The Trumbull County Engineer,s Office was called to inspect the bridge. The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Niles police and other emergency crews were at the scene for several hours. Officials said it did not appear that the damage to the bridge was severe.
Police were directing traffic from North Main onto Federal, but had to delay traffic flow at various points because each side of Federal became congested. Detours were posted and motorists were being advised to avoid that area, which is just south of McDonald’s.
