WARREN - Robert L. Young Sr., 86, died Thursday evening, Aug. 29, 2013, at Windsor House of Champion with his daughters by his side.
He was born Feb. 9, 1927, in Masury, the son of the late John Edward and Margaret Copham Young. He was a lifetime Trumbull County resident.
Bob served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater (Japan) during World War II as a private first class and received his sharpshooter qualification with the M1 rifle.
He retired in 1982, after nearly 30 years service, from the Warren City Fire Department as a firefighter at the Atlantic Street station.
Bob had attended the North Mar Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Warren. He took pride in his home handyman projects and enjoyed working in his yard. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and family.
He is survived by two daughters, Jeanne Killen of Warren and Jackie (Dan) Weston of Howland; one son, Bob L. (Pam) Young Jr. of Mecca Township; four grandchildren, Elliott Killen, Taylor Killen, Cole Weston and Elizabeth Young; and one sister, Peggy Cox of Warren.
His wife, Mary Louise Rufo Young, whom he married Nov. 5, 1951, preceded him in death Nov. 25, 2012. One sister, Winifred Slagle, and one brother, Jack Young, have also preceded him in death.
The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. today at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. prior to the service. Pastor Robert Long will officiate.
Entombment will be in All Souls Cemetery in Bazetta.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Windsor House of Champion's Alzheimer's unit for the compassionate care their dad and grandpa received in the final months of his life.
