Polish American Heritage Days will celebrate its 5th anniversary with festivities this weekend at the Saxon Club.
Saturdays festivities include a pierogi eating contest and a Mr. PieroGuy Competition to select the local man who most embodies the spirit of the pierogi, which is defined as having enduring cultural tradition, a sense of family connection through the generations, strong ethnic pride and delicious taste.
Mr. PieroGuy will be chosen during Zabawa, a pierogi party from 5 p.m. to midnight. Admission is $12 for adults and $10 for students, and attendees will get to eat pierogis, haluski and other Polish delicacies and enjoy live music by Jimmy Killian and the Chardon Polka Band.
Gates for Polish Day will open at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, and a mass with ethnic jazz is scheduled at 11:30 a.m.
Entertainment during the day will include the Living Traditions Folk Ensemble, the Chardon Polka Band, Hony Rocky's PPH Sing-A-Long and polka lessons and demonstrations.
Festivities run until 8 p.m. Sunday at the Saxon Club, 710 S. Meridian Road, Youngstown. Admission is $5, and those with a wristband from Saturdays' Zabawa party will receive $1 off admission. For more information, call 330-333-9724.
