WELLSBURG - A former coach of a traveling girls softball team has been charged with four counts of possession of child pornography by West Virginia State Police.
According to court documents, James Alan Sepik, 46, of 219 Petrick Ave., Mingo Junction, was arrested on the charges after a flash drive containing nearly 1,000 pornographic images of children was found near the Follansbee softball field.
According to the documents, a woman found the flash drive in the parking lot near the field on June 26 and after finding the images on it, turned it in to the Brooke County Sheriff's Department the following day.
The sheriff's department reported finding several letters written by Sepik on the flash drive in addition to the images, which had been downloaded from the Internet.
The sheriff's department recruited the state police's crimes against children unit to assist with the investigation and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department conducted a search of Sepik's home on July 3.
Sepik is being held at the Northern Regional Jail in lieu of a $500,000 bond set in Brooke County Magistrate Court, where he is slated to appear for a preliminary hearing Monday.
