The UFCW gives contributions to political candidates. They spend money on pickets at local stores and fliers sent out to local people to tell them all about the evil Bottom Dollar grocery store.
My mother recently received a letter from the UFCW telling her about how Bottom Dollar is foreign-owned and all the money is leaving our area.
They say "Bottom Dollar has wage and benefit policies that condemn its workers to a lower standard of living. Warren needs better jobs, not jobs that exploit workers."
Let's examine the facts and see who is exploiting workers. My wife worked for a UFCW store that is one of those listed in the mailing as a good place to shop because of it being unionized. It is one of the higher-priced stores in the area for a lot of things.
The workers make minimum wage, and have to give one of their hours to the union every week.
Bottom Dollar has lower prices on most things and new people make 40 cents more than minimum wage, and they get to keep their hour every week.
So the UFCW gets their people minimum wage, and takes an hour a week, and takes that money to try and put a store full of employees out on the street with no job. Who is it that is trying to give people a lower standard of living again?
We need Ohio to be a ''right-to-work'' state. Also, if people have a problem with foreign-owned businesses, they better put down the Budweiser, Miller, Corona, and German and Canadian beer. They better sell the Chrysler, Nissan, Honda, Toyota, Lexus, Hyundai, Daewoo, Kia, and so on and so on.
At least most of these companies employ American workers, and most of them are unionized - imagine that. I bet the ones that are union want people to keep buying their foreign-owned products.
