WARREN - New car sales continued their uptick last month, jumping 27 percent over July 2012 to 2,669 from 2,110 in Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties.
Statistics released Thursday by the Auto Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio indicated that Austintown's Greenwood Chevrolet maintained its top-seller spot in the tri-county region, selling 194 autos, 64 more than the previous year. Sweeney Chevrolet held the second-highest new car sales spot, with 156, up 52 percent over the 103 it sold in July 2012. Taylor Kia Stadium GM Superstore sold 137 new autos, up 19 percent over the 115 it sold in July 2012.
Diane Sauer Chevrolet maintained its hold on first place for new car sales in Trumbull County. The dealership sold 99 Chevrolets in July, up 34 from July 2012. Klaben Ford Lincoln of Warren was the second-highest new car sales dealership in Trumbull County, moving 80 new vehicles off the lot in July, up seven from this time last year. Sims Buick GMC Nissan sold 68 new cars in July, down one vehicle from 69 sold last year.
Sauer also held the top spot for used car sales last month, hitting 65, up 21 percent over the figure of a year ago. Austintown's Greenwood held Mahoning County's top used car spot as well, moving 114 vehicles off the lot in July. That number was down, however, from 122 the dealership sold last July.
The Lordstown-built Chevy Cruze remained the top selling model in the three-county area. Buyers took delivery on 183 new Cruzes, up 70, or 62 percent, over last July.
Chevrolet held the top four slots for new car sales: Silverado was second with 177 buyers taking delivery; Malibu was third with 172 sales; and Chevy Equinox was fourth with 109 new models sold. Ford F-150 held down the fifth-place spot with 86 buyers taking delivery in July.
