COLUMBIANA - Mary Stefanick, 87, formerly of Beechwood Drive, died at 10:18 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at Salem Community Hospital.
Mrs. Stefanick was born April 28, 1926, in Dunbar, Pa., the daughter of the late James and Mary Pietracak Kolat and had lived in the Columbiana area for 25 years, coming from Youngstown.
She first started working at the Youngstown Sheet & Tube, Campbell Works, as a cook in the canteen. She was then employed by the Youngstown Board of Education at Scienceville Junior High School and Mary Haddow Elementary School on the custodial staff. Her final employment was at Heck's Restaurant, Columbiana, as a baker.
She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, Columbiana, and also the Red Hat Society. She also was crowned as Parkside Heath Care Center Senior Prom Queen.
She enjoyed cooking, canning, baking, crocheting, gardening and especially spending time with her family.
Her husband, Mike Stefanick Jr., whom she married Oct. 31, 1945, died May 21, 2001.
She is survived by two daughters, Julia (Richard) Paris of Lisbon and Anna (Kenneth) Yacavone of Poland; two sons, Charles E. (Connie) Stefanick of Columbiana and Daniel Stefanick of Elloree, S.C.; a brother, Henry Kolat of Poland; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a son, John Stefanick; a sister, Rose Malachin; her twin sister, Martha Stiner; and eight brothers, Stanley, Joseph, Walter, John, Frank, Andrew, James and Robert Kolat.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Jude Catholic Church, Columbiana. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of the Parkside Health Care Center for the caring and compassionate care given to their mother these past six years.
