A three-week training class will be held for students to learn basic skills necessary for entry-level positions in the oil and gas industry.
Eastern Gateway Community College and ShaleNET will offer the floor hand classes from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily Aug. 19 to Sept. 6 at the Pugliese Center, 110 John Scott Highway, Steubenville.
The floor jobs are labor intensive with long hours and involve the operation of well drilling and service rigs as well as general maintenance and connection and disconnection of pipes.
Scholarships are available for all veterans as well as unemployed Ohioans who qualify.
A valid driver's license and copy of DD214 discharge paper, if applicable, are required.
Physical exams, drug screening and criminal background checks also are required at the cost of the student for about $150.
Completion of the pre-screening does not guarantee placement in the class.
Those interested in applying can register at www.ShaleNET.org, or pick up a form packet at the Pugliese Center.
Registration is required by Aug. 12.
