CHAMPION - Charles R. Banks, 85, of Champion, passed away Monday, July 30, 2013, at his home, surrounded by family.
He was born Oct. 13, 1927, in Champion, the son of Russel D. and Agnes Klingemier Banks. He married Helen Finley on Aug. 23, 1952.
He was a 1945 graduate of Champion High School and attended the General Motors Institute.
Charles owned and operated R.D. Banks Chevrolet for 48 years, retiring in 1993.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, stationed in Korea during peacetime.
Charles was a member of Champion Christian Church, past elder and life member of the Deaconate.
He was a member of the National Auto Dealers Association, Ohio Auto Dealers Association and was a past President of the Northeastern Ohio Auto Dealers Association. Charles was inducted into the Champion Achievement Hall of Fame for his success in business and his service to his community. He was also a past member of the Champion Lions Club and Kiwanis Club.
Charles enjoyed 60 years of marriage to his wife, Helen. They enjoyed traveling and spent 15 winters living in Tucson, Ariz. Charles loved spending time with his family.
Loving memories of Charles will be forever cherished by his loving wife, Helen Finley Banks of Warren; daughters, Marcia (Seldon) Plumley of Richmond, Va., and Janice (Robert) Whaley of Fairport, N.Y.; sons, John C. (Pamela) Banks and Russell D. (Karen) Banks both of Champion; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary E. Banks of Warren and Dorothy Robinson of Bluffton.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, at Champion Christian Church, where the Rev. Cynthia Klingemier will officiate. Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, 2013 at the church.
Interment will be in Champion Township Cemetery, Champion.
