GREENVILLE, Pa. - Thomas J. Raiti, 59, of Greenville, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes Sunday, July 28, 2013, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 27, 1953, in Sharon, Pa., to John and Audrey Gilliland Raiti.
He graduated from Sharpsville High School class of 1970. Thomas also graduated from Youngstown State University with his bachelor's in criminal law and master's in accounting. He became a licensed CPA. Later he became a certified fraud investigator.
Thomas worked for the state of Pennsylvania in the auditor's office as an auditor for 32 years, until his retirement in 2009.
He was of Orthodox faith.
Thomas was an avid hunter, vegetable gardener, and Browns, Cleveland Indians, Ohio State Buckeyes, YSU Penguins and Sharpsville High School Blue Devils fan, and he enjoyed golfing and bird watching.
He was a member of Carpatho-Rusyn Society, where he was instrumental in bringing the society to the Shenango Valley; the National Wild Turkey Federation; AFSCME union Lodge 972; Greenville VFW Post 7599; AARP; Loyal Order of the Moose 276, Greenville; and Fighting Fraud Globally organization as a CPA.
Thomas had a tax preparation business in his home.
Thomas will be deeply missed by his sisters, Helen Papsun of Conneaut Lake, Pa., Margaret Raiti of Charlotte, N.C., Betty (Stephen) Zombar of Warren, Rebecca (Robert) Capusta of Hermitage, Pa., and Elizabeth J. Raiti of Cortland; nieces, Michelle Andromalos, Natalie (Alan) Friedl and Jennifer (fiance John Welch) Zombar; nephews, Shane (Cindy) Capusta and Ed (Andrea) Papsun; great-nieces, Samantha Andromalos, Jennifer Andromalos and Felicity Friedl; great-nephews, Dakota Papsun and Devon Capusta; his Godparents, Delores and Andy Raiti of Greenville; his best friend, Larry "Sonny" Province; and all his farming neighbors and local Mennonite community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Audrey Raiti.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Stephen J. Sherman Funeral Home, 2201 Highland Road, Hermitage, where Panachida will be held at 7:45 p.m.
Funeral services will be held noon Saturday at the funeral home with Father David Mastroberte officiating.
Interment will take place in Orangeville Cemetery.
