WARREN - Virginia Substanley, 92, of Warren, passed away at 7:39 a.m. Monday, July 22, 2013, at Emeritus at Chestnut Hill in Columbus.
Virginia was born Sept. 19, 1920, in Campbell, the daughter of the late Joseph and Barbara Reichart Kielb, and was a 1939 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School.
A homemaker, Virginia was a member of Blessed John Paul II Parish in Warren.
She was a longtime Cub Scouts den mother and was an accomplished seamstress. Virginia enjoyed camping and hiking with her family and was a member of the National Campers and Hikers Association for many years.
Virginia married Steve J. Substanley on July 5, 1941, and they were married for 51 years until his passing on Oct. 12, 1992.
Virginia is survived by two children, Jeanette (Lawrence) DelBane of Concord Township and Jerome (Bernie Thurn) Substanley of Gahanna; a brother, Adam Kielb of Lowellville; grandchildren Paul and Matthew DelBane, Corrine (Tom) Rupp, and twins Nathaniel and Zachary Substanley; and two great-granddaughters, Megan and Katie Rupp.
Besides her parents and husband, Steve, Virginia was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Calling hours will take place from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Sinchak and Sons Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Godffrey Torac officiating at Blessed John Paul II Parish, preceded by closing prayers to be recited at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home prior to leaving for the church.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Champion.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be directed in Virginia's name to the St. Joseph Cemetery Endowment Fund, c/o Blessed John Paul II Parish, 420 North St. N.W., Warren, OH 44483.
