MINERAL RIDGE - Florence Collins, 89, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2013, at her residence.
Born April 1, 1924, in Warren, she was the daughter of William and Rhoda (Spencer) Butler.
Florence married Thomas Edward Collins Sr. on Aug. 22, 1942, and together they had five children. Thomas passed away in February 2012 just shy of their 70th wedding anniversary.
Florence worked for Trumbull Memorial Hospital as a licensed practical nurse for 20 years. She was a member of the St. Mary's Women's Guild and an "honoree" member of the Crazy Quilters of Warren. She was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing, but most of all the time she spent with all of her grandchildren.
Survivors include her children; son, Thomas (Pam) Collins Jr. of Lakewood, Wash.; daughters, Mary Elizabeth Barron of Jefferson, Barbara Ponzurick of Mineral Ridge and Christine (Fred) Haxton of Buchanan, Va.; three sisters; Ruth Montellese, Vickie DeVault and Theresa Straw; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother; five sisters; son, John; and grandson, John Jr.
A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Church in Mineral Ridge.
