July 14, 2013
By ALISA MANNA - Tribune Chronicle , Tribune Chronicle |

HOWLAND The whole family was overwhelmed with excitement after Ray Matwich, 92, of Howland, was selected as one of 30 veterans for the Major League Baseball and PEOPLE Magazine "Tribute for Heroes" campaign.

Nominated by grandson Adam Kosiba and daughter Patricia Kosiba, Matwich will represent the Cleveland Indians at the 84th All-Star Game Tuesday at Citi Field in New York City.

The Tribue for Heroes campaign recognizes veterans and military service members of the Armed Forces of the United States or Canada in an effort to support Welcome Back Veterans, an initiative of Major League Baseball and the Robert R. McCormick Foundation, which addresses the needs of veterans after they return from service.

The family talks about the honor in the Monday Tribune Chronicle.
