NILES - A Mahoning County Sheriff's deputy cited for driving while impaired was released on his own recognizance after his arraignment today.

Amos B. Case, 31, pleaded not guilty at his arraignment. He is scheduled to appear for a pretrial hearing Aug. 16.

Police cited him with first-degree misdemeanor OVI and failing to leave an assured clear distance between his truck and the car he is accused of hitting.

Police said he rear-ended the vehicle around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of North Road and U.S. Route 422 in Niles. The crash sent Tracey Finney, 44, of Liberty, to a local intensive care unit.
