WARREN - Robert E. Irwin, 84, died Thursday, July 4, 2013, after a brief illness at his home with family at his side.
He was born April 3, 1929, in Franklin, Pa., a son of the late Neal D. Irwin and the late Loda P. Fisher.
He married the late Florence Ross Irwin, his one true love, on June 23, 1951.
Robert was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and Old Erie Lodge 3 Free and Accepted Masons.
He was a graduate of Warren G. Harding class of 1947, with whom he enjoyed luncheons and other class events.
Robert was employed as a tool and die maker / tool room supervisor at Sajar Plastics, where he worked 28 years. He also worked at many other businesses in the Warren area.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served with the 27th Infantry Regiment 25th Division during the occupation of Japan after World War II.
He is survived by his two sisters, Helen Irwin Grettler and Suzanne Saunders; sons Robert E (Mary) Irwin Jr. and Carl E. Irwin, both of Warren; daughters Christina (Harry) West of Virginia Beach, Va., and Diana Irwin of Athens; grandchildren Rebekah Irwin, Matthew (Tammy) Irwin, Daniel (Cheryl) Irwin, Bethany Irwin, Benjamin (Heather) West, Andrew (Ariana) West, Beatrice (Brad) Langley, Jacob Goettge and Chelsea Goettge; and nine great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, wife and brothers Wilbur Irwin, Neal D. Irwin Jr. and Carl E. Irwin.
Robert loved spending time with his family, who will miss him dearly.
Services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, where Robert E. Irwin Jr. will officiate. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
