NEWTON FALLS - Edward Durkos Sr., 85, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at Community Skilled Nursing Home with his loving family at his side.
On Aug. 14, 1927, in Newton Falls, John and Anna Haduk Durkos welcomed the birth of their son, Edward.
He was a lifetime area resident and obtained his formal education in the Newton Falls school system.
Edward was a parishioner of St. Mary and St. Joseph Church.
Ed was employed as a maintenance welder at Rockwell International prior to retiring, and in his spare time he enjoyed repairing small engines, gardening and landscaping.
Edward Durkos and Velma J. Loomis were united into marriage on Nov. 13, 1948, at St. Mary's Church in Warren, and from this union they had three sons, Larry, Edward Jr. and Kevin.
Cherished memories of Edward will be carried on by his sons, Larry (Patty Gillespie) Durkos of Newton Falls and Edward (Joy Weller) Durkos of Hillard; and grandchildren Ashley (Nathaniel) Feldcamp of Willoughby and Lindsey Durkos of Grove City, Pa.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Velma, in 1987; son Kevin, in 2007; daughter-in-law Cindy Ginter Durkos, in 2003; sister Ann Paya; and brothers John and Mike Durkos.
Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at the Borowski Memorial Home, where a prayer service will be held at 10 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the service at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary and St. Joseph Church.
Edward will be laid to rest next to his wife, Velma, and with son Kevin in St. Joseph Cemetery.
The Durkos family would like to express and extend sincere thanks to Community Skilled Nursing Home, the staff and patients for the kindness and care given to him during his stay, and also to Hospice of the Valley.
