Three Mahoning Valley artists were among the award winners announced Sunday for the 77th National Midyear exhibition at the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown.
Receiving honorable mention recognition were Gary Taneri of Warren for his oil painting ''Self Portrait w/ Gray Shirt''; Graylin Anderson of Canfield for the mixed media work ''Sunday Morning''; and Carol J. Conatser of Boardman for the mixed media work ''City Mists.''
First Place honors went to Sean McConnor of Greenville, Pa., with Stacy Leeman of Columbus receiving second place and Matt Dibble of Cleveland earning third place recognition. Diane Englander of New York, N.Y., was selected for the Allied Artists of America Award; James Stewart of Fredonia, Pa., was selected for the Phil Desind Award and George Mauersberger of Cleveland was awarded the Dianne B. Bernhard Art Spirit Award.

Other honorable mention honorees include Carla Crawford of Napa, Calif.; Lee Heinen of Cleveland; Joseph Moniz of Acushnet, Ma.; Rabecca Signoriello of New Castle, Pa.; and Carol M. Stewart of Bexley.
The award winners were selected by jurors Thomas McNickle and Jerald Melberg, who selected 90 works by 77 artists for the show from 835 submissions.
The National Midyear runs through Aug. 18 at the Butler, 524 Wick Ave., Youngstown.
