NEWTON FALLS -
Little feet dangled from Ferris wheel seats and hands reached for sugary funnel cake treats at the community center carnival Tuesday evening. The bustling block included rides, games and food in celebration of Independence Day.
"We live right here on the corner. We try not to come every night, but it's too hard not to," Christy Liber said.

Toes touched the sky as a group of high-schoolers took a ride on The Paratrooper at the Newton Falls community carnival. The festivities will continue until July 4 with rides, games, treats and musical performances.
Along with Liber were her sons Jacob, 3, and Luke, 1, and her sister Sandi Gorvet with 3-year-old daughter Clara Cahalin. The group was ready for rides after stopping by a french fry stand.
Liber said Luke was especially excited for his first time at the carnival. Minutes later, brother Jacob was off to play games with his grandmother, Sheri Spano, tossing ping pong balls at fish bowls in hopes of winning a goldfish.
"I thought I'd let them run some of their energy out," Amanda Rabel said of her boys.
No sooner were her sons Cameron, 10, and Adam, 7, off of the Ferris wheel than they were headed to another ride. Rabel said they used to live in Newton Falls but recently moved to Warren, so the carnival was a good excuse to visit her sister.
The carnival wasn't just for the young kids. Southeast High-schoolers Lindsey Guinaugh, 14, Sarah Suvada, 17, and Brianne Suvada, 14, enjoyed the fast-paced Paratrooper ride that spun them around in a loop while ascending into the air.
All three agreed that the nearby Dominator was the best of the bunch - a ride that lets passengers flip upside down in a small encaged pair of seats while spinning in a circle.
Also accompanying the carnival was a country music performance by Dixie Soul.
The festivities continue until Thursday. Today the carnival opens at 5 p.m. with a performance by The Fuzz from 8 p.m. till midnight. Thursday, it will open at 5 p.m. with entertainment by Short Circuit beginning at 6 p.m. Fireworks will begin at 10 p.m.
