The Friends of the McKinley Memorial Library raised more than $4,000 in donations and memberships to help fund programs at the library.
"This is the money we raised from our book sales and membership," said Friends of the Library president Kadie Bowen.
The Friends of the McKinley Memorial Library hold two book and media sales each year organized by members of the Friends. Niles McKinley High School Key Club members help out with the sale by organizing books, CDs, DVDs and computer games, plus T-shirts, commemorative plates, coins and note cards.
The Friends of the McKinley Memorial Library donated $4,200 to the library last week. The funds were the result of the Friends’ membership and book sale, which is held twice each year. In addition to the book sales, the group also hosts an annual lawn party with several raffles to coincide with a lawn concert on the library grounds. The lawn party this year will be held June 11 prior to the 7 p.m. concert.
The Friends of the Library, formed Dec. 12, 1970, is a non-profit organization that works to raise money for materials and programs sponsored by the library. Some projects underwritten by the group include the children's summer reading programs, Breakfast with Santa and the adult summer reading program.
Memberships are available throughout the year at $5 for children in grades K-12; $10 associate membership; $25 sustaining membership; $30 family membership; $50 patron membership; and $100 for membership in the William McKinley Lifetime Circle. Lifetime members are named on a contribution plaque on display at the McKinley Birthplace Home. Membership fees and donations are tax deductible.
