HONOLULU, Hawaii - Richard L. Julian, 49, formerly of Warren, died Tuesday, June 4, 2013, in Honolulu, Hawaii.
He was born May 3, 1964, in Warren, the son of the late Karen Bancroft and James Julian.
He was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School. Richard attended The Ohio State University and graduated from the University of Maryland / Notre Dame with a bachelor's degree in arts and history. He also received his master of arts and leadership and management from the university.
He served in the U.S. Navy and attended the U.S. Military Language College in Presidio, Calif., where he learned to speak Farsi and the language of the Philippines.
Richard always spoke of the football and basketball programs at Harding. He was a devoted fan of both along with Ohio State.
After leaving the Navy, he worked for Charles Schwab in Baltimore and with the Department of Medicaid in Washington, D.C.
He is survived by his sister, Rebecca "Becky" in Columbus; his stepfather, Thomas W. Stewart Sr.; his stepsisters, Jill and Lyn Stewart; and a stepbrother, Thomas Jr. He is also survived by his father, James Julian; stepmother, Susan; and half-brothers Scott and Robert Julian, all living in Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Karen A. Bancroft Stewart, and grandparents, whom he loved dearly, Richard and Anne Bancroft.
Cremation was held in Hawaii.
