NORTH JACKSON - Garrett L. "Bud" Connors Jr., 90, died Saturday afternoon, June 15, 2013, at home.
Garrett was born Dec. 26, 1922, in Youngstown, to Garrett Leo and Agnes Helen Steimetz Connors.
He was a graduate of Austintown Fitch High School.
Garrett served his country in the U.S. Army and was a prisoner of war during World War II.
He later graduated from Youngstown State University and started his teaching career with the Hartford School District. He also taught at Jackson-Milton and Liberty before becoming principal and later superintendent for the Jackson-Milton School District. Garrett was very proud to have started the NEOSERRC program, which helps to identify special-needs children with disabilities while accommodating their educational needs. He then worked for the Trumbull County Board of Education for more than 38 years until retiring.
He enjoyed traveling, singing, and building and flying model airplanes.
Garrett is survived by his dear friend, Carla Muir; three daughters, Kathleen O'Connor of Seattle, Patricia Connors of Davis, Calif., and Penny (Randy) Burdge of Shawnee, Kan.; five grandchildren, Jennifer Roberts, George Guy, Alexandra Connors, Evan Burdge and Connor Burdge; and four great-grandchildren, Griffin and Henry Roberts and Penelope and Samuel Guy.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Connors; and a sister, Agnes Mae Connors.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel. Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
