MARIETTA, Ga. - Mary Lissie Provitt Smith, 91, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and caretaker of the family, loved by all, died Friday, May 31, 2013, in Austell, Ga.
She was born April 30, 1922, in Luverne, Ala., to the late Arlissie Dukes and Frank Ball.
She was born in Luverne and grew up in the Rutledge community.
Mary was a member of Thankful Apostolic Deliverance Temple of Atlanta.
She leaves to hold in their heart seven daughters, Eula (Ned) Salter of Marietta, Ga., Aberdean Johnson of Acworth, Ga., Earnestine (Joe) Dozier of Greenville, Ala., Dr. Ezella (Dr. Earnest) Parker of Melbourne, Fla., Nellie Seawood of Marietta, Beverly (Paul) Maddery of Columbus and Patricia Smith of Youngstown; three sons, Robert (Ann) Provitt of Warren, Tester (Mary) Provitt of Austell, Ga., and Charles (Shirley) Provitt of Phoenix; three sisters, Annie (Ezar) Shine, Ruby Ball and Catherine (Benjamin) McClain, all of Georgiana, Ala.; one brother, Leon Ball of Georgiana; 40 grandchildren; 75 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Provitt and James Smith; a son, John A. Provitt; two daughters, Annie Lois Provitt and Elaine Bryant; one grandson, Michael Provitt; and nine brothers and sisters.
The final service in honor of our dear Mother ("Big Mama," "Mother Mary L. Smith") will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the St. Paul Church of God in Christ, 2100 Colonial St. S.E., Warren, OH 44484, 330-369-8501.
