SALEM - It's still a long way off, but Salem resident Diane Grimm moved one game closer to the Ohio Lottery Cash Challenge record during Saturday's Cash Explosion show.

Grimm first appeared on the June 1 show after her Cash Explosion entry ticket was drawn from the estimated 20,000 entries the lottery receives each week.

She purchased the ticket at Cigarette World on E. State St.

Grimm won a segment of the June 1 Cash Explosion game advancing to the Cash Challenge segment where she was matched up against the winner of the other Cash Explosion segment and the previous week's Cash Challenge winner and won her first $50,000.

This past Saturday, Grimm was automatically entered in the Cash Challenge segment by way of qualifying as the previous week's winner, and she won her second $50,000.

During the Cash Challenge she won an additional $10,000 by selecting a "Bonus" square, bringing her total winnings to $110,000.

Ken Dauenhauer, an associate producer for the lottery game show said, "This June 15 she is coming back."

Under the current game format, the highest amount awarded was $520,000.

That amount was reached by Terri Waddell of Maineville on the Oct. 20, 2012 episode when she was defeated during her record-breaking seventh appearance on the show.

Dauenhauer said the shows have no limit.

"We don't really have a top prize," he said, "Terri was the first half-million dollar winner and we're hoping for the first million-dollar winner."

He said it would take at least 11 appearances to reach the million-dollar mark.

The number of Cash Explosion entries is an estimate, Dauenhauer said, explaining that over-the-counter sales are not counted but online sales are.

"You have to be pretty lucky," he said.

Larry Roberts of Salem will appear on the July 29 Cash Explosion show. He purchased his entry ticket at Robert's Country Store on Stratton Road.

The Cash Explosion shows are filmed in Columbus.
