CORTLAND - Dale Van Root, 84, died Friday morning, June 7, 2013.
He was born Nov. 16, 1928, in Johnston, the son of Seth H. Sr. and Ethylne Grayson Root.
He was a 1946 graduate of Johnston High School.
Dale made his living as a master welder, helping those that appeared with a need. He retired from Packard Electric after 28 years. He enjoyed fishing in Canada, hunting in Pennsylvania and gardening in Ohio.

He is survived by his daughters, Deborah (Robert) and Darla; partner, Helene; six grandchildren, Oren, Adam, Bethany, Grayson, Jodi and Kirsten; and brothers, Ivan (Joan) Root of Little Rock, S.C., Francis Carlon (Virginia) Root of San Diego and Neal (Louise) Root of Lakeland, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his two sons, Terry and James; his parents; a sister, Betty Lou; and two brothers, Seth Root Jr. and Robert Root.
A gentle celebration of Dale's life will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at the Staton-Borowski Funeral Home, 962 North Road N.E., Warren, OH 44483, where family and friends will share some words at 11 a.m.
Burial will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Cortland.
