Bishop George V. Murry has appointed the Rev. John-Michael Lavelle pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in McDonald, effective July 1.
Lavelle is currently pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Niles, a position he will keep in addition to his new assignment.
Lavelle was ordained May 27, 2000, and completed seminary studies at St. Vincent Seminary in Latrobe, Pa.
He served as associate pastor at St. Mary Parish in Massillon and St. Christine Parish in Youngstown, and was pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish in Ravenna.
In addition to his current pastorates, Lavelle is director of advancement for Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Youngstown, chairperson of the Diocesan Council for Catechesis, secretary of the Diocese of Youngstown Foundation and a member of the Diocesan Stewardship Commission.
He previously served as pastoral director of Catholic Television Network of Youngstown, and instructor in the theology department at Walsh University and in the Deacon Formation program for the diocese. He also served as chaplain of the Serra Club of Youngstown, which promotes vocations to the priesthood.
