EMPIRE, Mich. - Merle John Wilcox, 84, died Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, Mich.
He was born Sept. 17, 1928, in Roxabell, the son of Maurice and Edna Sommers Wilcox, and was raised in Bristolville.
Merle served in the U.S. Army during the occupation of Germany after World War II.

He was the former owner of Glen Lake Electric in Empire, Mich., and was a member of the Empire United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Kay Schulz Wilcox; one daughter, Marilyn Wilcox of Barrington, Ill.; one son, Richard of Lake Ann, Mich.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael; two daughters, Kim and Jacquelyn Wilcox; and a sister.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Merle's life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Empire United Methodist Church in Empire. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
