NILES - Joyce Ann Spitler, 60, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at her home.
She was born June 14, 1952, in Melmore, the daughter of Opal Elizabeth Hieber Spitler and Lester Joel Spitler.
Joyce graduated from Mohawk High School, Sycamore, in 1970, and Bluffton College in 1974.
She taught home economics / family and consumer science, and general science at Niles McKinley High School from 1974 to 2009. She was a home economics club adviser for most of her career.
She was a Red Cross adviser for numerous years; a member of First Presbyterian Church of Mineral Ridge, serving as elder and deacon; and a volunteer at Niles Community Services, where she was also member of the board for the past three years.
Survivors include her partner, Robert Earl Seiple in Niles; two siblings, Barbara Jean (David) Sander of Genoa and David Joel (Barbara) Spitler of Tiffin; two children, Jeffrey Michael Thompson of Addison, Texas, and Julie Marie Thompson of Cleburne, Texas; and a grandson, Anthony Joel Thompson of Cleburne, Texas.
Joyce donated her body for cancer research through the Cleveland Clinic.
A celebration of life / memorial service will be held in July at the First Presbyterian Church. Details will be announced.
