WARREN - The body that was found earlier this week in a burning car in Lordstown has been identified.
According to Lordstown police Chief Brent Milhoan, Michael C. Anderson, 23, of 7th Street in Warren Township, was found dead in a burning car along Industrial Trace Tuesday afternoon.
Though the Trumbull County coroner has performed an autopsy, a cause of death is not known at this time, according to Milhoan.
The investigation is being treated as a homicide.
Firefighters were called to an access road near a cell tower off Industrial Trace Road around 1:15 p.m. Tuesday after someone spotted the burning vehicle. As firefighters were extinguishing the flames they realized there was a body in the car.
The vehicle was engulfed in flames when authorities arrived.
On Wednesday, Milhoan said that as far as local law enforcement knows the vehicle has not been reported stolen.
Officials have declined to elaborate on where in the vehicle the body was located.
