YOUNGSTOWN - Joe R. "Smokey" Mortellaro, 87, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013, with his loving family by his side.
He was born July 29, 1925, in Youngstown, the son of Nicholas and Mary Rudy Mortellaro.
Joe served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired from LTV Steel Co. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Youngstown.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Mortellaro; three children, Janice Petrek of Parma, Joe of Poland and Silva Serban of Alexandria, Va.; and six grandchildren.
Joe was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, preceded by a 9:15 a.m. prayer service at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home in Boardman. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown, where the Trumbull County American Legion will provide full military honors for Joe.
