Ben Carkido drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift McDonald over Columbiana, 5-4, in an Inter Tri-County League, Lower Tier showdown.
McDonald's Tom Rebraca reach on an error to start the sixth, moved to second on a passed ball and Carkido, who also doubled, hit a single down the left-field line to score him. Columbiana had runners on first and second in the seventh, but the Blue Devils escaped the jam when Mike Schuller induced a game-ending ground ball to third. Schuller struck out six in a complete-game effort. Mike Raschilla hit two singles and drove in two for the Blue Devils (14-3, 11-1).
Neco Maderitz put in another strong outing in Girard's 6-1 win over Mooney. She struck out 16 Cardinals and gave up one triple as Mooney's only hit.
