LISBON - Four new drilling permit applications for the county have been filed with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources over the past several weeks.
- McKarns property off state Route 518 in Wayne Township.
- Judy Brown property off Haessley Road in Hanover Township.
- Sevek property off Clarks Mill Road in Washington Township.
- Schwartz property off state Route 11 in Fairfield Township.
Chesapeake Exploration is the applicant for the McKarns, Brown and Sevek units, while Enervest is the applicant for the Schwartz unit. Chesapeake holds 58 of the 69 drilling permits issued for the county since mid 2010.
The McKarns unit is the first permit application for Wayne Township, leaving Liverpool, Perry and St. Clair townships as the only townships in the county without a drilling permit. The Judy Brown application is the 11th for Hanover Township, which has the most.
This will bring to 69 the number of separate drilling sites in the county since mid 2010, although some have more than one well. About half have been drilled, of which five wells are currently in production.
