FLORIDA - John David King Jr., 90, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013. David passed away peacefully with his devoted wife, Georgette, by his side at Mount Sinai Medical Center, Miami, Fla.
He was born April 23, 1923, in Bluefield, W. Va., the son of John David and Virginia King Sr.
J. David graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and served in the Pacific Theater in World War II on the minesweeper USS McCook.
In 1961, he became one of the first bridge professionals, maintaining the top 100 master point list for many years while competing in bridge throughout the world. He amassed 12,668 master points as Platinum LifeMaster and was featured on the front page of the Wall Street Journal in 1971.
As well as embracing the Greek culture, he was witty, charming, fun-loving and respected by all.
He is survived by Georgette King, his wife of 40 years; a son, James (Patty) King; a daughter, Carol (Steve) Bray; two grandchildren, Jamie (Mike) Parsons and Jonathon (Kelly) King; three great-grandchildren, Emma, Jake and Grant; sister-in-law Christina (Nick) Kapolis; brother-in-law Guste (Kate) Kantakis; two nieces, Rita (Adamantios) Antonas and Kalia Kantakis; two nephews, Thano (Anthie) Kapolis and Adam Kantakis; and seven grand nieces and nephews, Alexandra, Constantine, Niko, Kiki, Tina, Niko and Elia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a brother.
Family and friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. today at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel, 1884 North Road N.E., Warren 44483.
A service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church with Fr. Constantine Valantasis officiating.
Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Warren.
